What an insightful article, Katrina! Would you consider sending to OpEd? As a fellow convert won over by the enthusiasm for lifting up everyone on the team, I'm looking forward to enjoying the game with you tonight! And for the record, I won't be wearing a pink bedazzled jersey while I enjoy a beer.

Thanks for your comment! While I suspect you're not the primary target market, it certainly speaks highly of the game that serious gamers such as yourself are enjoying it as well. As for the collectibles, I seem to recall parents and yes, child-free adults, fueling the Beanie Baby collection craze of the 90s!

Thank you for posting this inciteful article. Now I know what I originally suspected, at 48 years old, I was suckered into a marketing ploy....but not for my kids (I have none) but my own gaming interests....I find the game enjoyable...a great mindless distraction from every day issues. I fear I will never learn and I am just a typical American Male that just refuses to grow up. Part of the enjoyment is in fact building teh collection, even if you can only get certain characters at special stores. Now only time will tell how quickly stocks can be replenished and the momentium continues - or will it just be a quick fad.

Hey Jen, thanks for the comment! Just took a look at the "guys" version and I agree...seems more cliche and less of a "field study." So funny...after watching the video, my friends and I are saying "Twinsies!" now, where we didn't before.

Did you see the version of what guys said? I felt like it had a few glimmers of brilliance but wasn't nearly as accurate. Sort of a bummer because guys rattle of some gems too. My favorite from the female version was "is this hummus?"

Thank you, Jen! And thank you for recognizing Mix Creative's partners; the photography and writing for the Halleland Habicht site was an integral part of the overall vision and design. Rob Wilson (Andrews Photography) and Barb Prindle (Snap Communications) are both highly creative and inspired people that take time to read the brief, ask questions, and really get to know the client. Plus, they're fun!
